With the approach of mid-summer, begins Korea’s Monsoon season.  The relentless rain of the past 15 days caused high number of casualties in central regions such as Chungcheong and Gyeongbuk. Currently, according to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (Middle Department), 23 people had passed from torrential rains on July 15th. Heavy rain is also causing discomfort in transportation. According to Korail (Korea Railroad Corporation), to ensure safety, on the coming 16th, services for all regular trains such as Mugunghwa and ITX-Saemaeul, were suspended.

In addition, KTX also stopped operating its high-speed train KTX-Ieum, which operates through Jungang and Central Inland Line.

Furthermore, there has been numerous flight cancellations in airports such as Gimhae, Ulsan, Pohang, and Gyeongju. This is because strong monsoon rains engender severe tailwinds and low clouds, which makes landing and take-off an even more rigorous task.
