In the changing seasons of Fall into Winter, many families celebrate the festivities with cozy meals for Thanksgiving, Passover, and Christmas. However, the people struggling with issues of obesity and weight problems, often find these holiday seasons as an “annual turmoil” and “overindulging on holidays built around food.” (Claudia Sterns).

Nonetheless, with the new anti-obesity drugs, people’s anxiety and stress over holiday meals have decreased. Claudia Sterns, a 65-year-old woman who struggled with obesity since childhood, claims that with the help of the anti-obesity drug, she was “able to enjoy her meal, to focus on being with friends and family, to focus on the joy of the day.” Cases similar to Claudia Sterns have been becoming more common as the popularity of anti-obesity drugs increases.

Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly, the two major pharmaceutical companies for anti-obesity drugs have increased in their revenue as the drugs’ demands rapidly increased in the past year. Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic, alone, has generated revenue of $3.2 billion, and the sales of Saxenda and Wegovy have more than tripled from just last year with the sales of $1.6 billion. And, Lilly’s promise of growth is to be reflected in the industry’s top spot at more than $500 billion in market cap.
